Remedies for bad breath

Have you ever experienced a bad breath? How embarrassing it will be when talking with others with a bad breath. And you may have tried cupping your hand over your mouth and nose to test the breath. Nobody wants bad breath, but bad breath always occurs, especially during the COIVD precaution period.


The main reasons for bad breath:


Bacteria: Caused by poor dental hygiene. Bacteria is the most common cause of bad breath.


Diet: A certain diet can cause temporary bad breath. Bad breath easily occurs when we consume smelly food and drinks like garlic, onion, coffee, and alcohol.


Dry mouth: Drinking water is helpful to wash the bacteria away before multiplying. When people consume less water than normal, it will cause a dry mouth. Then the bacteria will accumulate and decompose on tongue, gums, so your breath smells bad.


Now, we will conclude the methods to reduce or prevent bad breath.


-Brush teeth after eating.

Brushing teeth at least twice a day is the basic daily cleaning routine. Toothpastes with antibacterial properties are effective to reduce bad breath odors. After eating, the debris of foods in mouth will cause odor, so it’s necessary to keep a toothbrush at the office to use after eating.


-Floss every day.

Floss your teeth at least once a day. Proper flossing removes food particles and plaque between your teeth, helping control bad breath. If you don’t floss, you are missing 35% of your teeth surfaces.

-Brush your tongue.

Some of us are not in the habit of brushing our tongues while brushing teeth. Our tongue harbors bacteria, proper brushing can reduce odors.


-Drink plenty of water

As bad breath is easy to occur when we get a dry mouth, we should keep our mouth moist by drinking water, so as to stimulate the flow of saliva.


-Keep a healthy diet.

Avoid eating some smelly food which can cause bad breath. Do not consume too much sugary food. Sugar can feed the bacteria, which can cause tooth decay and bad breath.


-Clean the dental appliances regularly

The bridge, denture, dental retainer, and mouth guard we might wear all should be cleaned regularly under the dentist’s direction. And you can turn to the dentist for the most suitable cleaning products.


There also are some special situations, where bad breath cannot go away no matter what you try, pls ask your dentist for advice.
